YEAR 2020
CLIENT Property Owner
Cadarn were employed by the property owner, having been recommended by their preferred contractor, to provide professional Engineering services to support the alteration and extension of Ael y Bryn. The spectacular location also provided various issues in relation to the nature of the ground, the access to the site and historical movement.
A structural design of the property was undertaken with design of steel frame members forming a glazed corner and steel goal post to form the opening between the historical property and proposed extension. Detailed drawings were produced to assist the contractor and their chosen fabricator as well as design calculation packs and design certificates for the Building Regulations Authority.
Having undertaken a condition assessment of the property Cadarn, through design, mitigated the need for costly and challenging underpinning to the historical property. In addition, we had several conversations with the contractor and client regarding the extension of the property and the varying methods of construction.
In addition to the design aspect we assisted the contractor with determining the method of execution, providing temporary works designs for propping and advice for the shuttering and casting of reinforced concrete. The finished project provides a light warm space to take in the breath-taking views of the Menai Straits.
