managed to mitigate the need for a foul sewer pumping station by re-grading the site allowing additional space for a further two properties, balance the sites cut and fill volumes to reduce costs of importing or exporting material and prove the capacity of the surface water attenuation ponds. In addition, the need for costly and maintenance dependant buried surface water attenuation structures was removed through the innovative use of SuDS systems such as swales and ponds.
Cadarn were appointed to undertake the road, sewers, and external works design for the proposed development, obtaining the necessary sectional agreements with the Highway Authority and sewerage undertaker. Initial design team meetings with the client resulted in brainstorming ideas for mitigating the need for heavy infrastructure whilst complementing the lush green surroundings of the site.
The design resulted in a significant cost saving across all aspects of the site as a result of the innovative engineering design, an increased number of residential properties as part of the development and due to the type of SuDS structures designed on site it allowed the construction programme to be accelerated and finished quicker. This is a great example of how good Engineering, particularly drainage, makes a development of significant size blend in perfectly with its natural surroundings.
