YEAR 2020
CLIENT Property Owner
Cadarn were employed by the property owner, to provide professional Engineering services to support the alteration and extension of Y Fron, a historical prominent property in Llangefni, Anglesey. The commission sought to provide a sympathetic structural design for the proposed extension and multi bay garage proposed.
A structural design was provided for the orangery extension which included steel frame, masonry walls and timber members as well as structural steel beams and columns to form the complete removal of the ground floor rear wall to access the extension. Internal alterations warranted the need for timber member design and the design of structural members using traditional materials to complement the historical nature of the property. Detailed drawings were produced to assist the contractor and their chosen fabricator as well as design calculation packs and design certificates for the Building Regulations Authority.
As with all of our projects the process of commencing this particular project began with meeting the client, discussing their specific requirements, understanding the historical importance of the building and the heritage impact the proposal could potentially have. Agree material choices and types of structure to be used as well as innovate on the methods of undertaking the works.
As well as completing the design calculation packs and design certificates Cadarn provided assistance through the construction phase in detailing a construction strategy and design of temporary works to minimise the impact on the historical structure. The new extensions blend seamlessly into the historical character of the original building.
If our process driven approach can assist you with your project, get in touch as we’d be more than happy to help.
